Just upgraded from 7.5.8 to 7.5.9. Upgrade went smoothly without issues.

Received the following warning in the Admin Panel:

You may experience issues with a blank configuration file if you continue, please see UBB.Wiki: Issues with suhosin; this issue pertains to the settings of the suhosin module with your webhost. Your current suhousin length is: 512.

Followed the link to the wiki at: http://www.ubbwiki.com/article/view/16/issues-with-suhosin.html

Per the wiki, I asked the webhost to increase the value from 512 to 2048 for php.ini.

Once that is done, do I need to do anything else? [I expect the warning will go away and I can open the forums.]

The overall upgrade was identical to previous upgrades (no issues found, all the right files in place, etc.).

We've been using UBB since 1996 and are quite happy (and are very, very happy to see this release!).

Thanks!

OK. Webhost made the update.

Same message appears with different value for subhousin:

You may experience issues with a blank configuration file if you continue, please see UBB.Wiki: Issues with suhosin; this issue pertains to the settings of the suhosin module with your webhost. Your current suhousin length is: 2048.

What do I do?

That should be it.
The issue comes from a suhosin value that is to small to accept all the potential config changes to the config.inc.php file.
If the memory limit is exceeded then, poof gone.
And the config.inc.php file gets hosed.

It could be a browser cache issue.
But anyway goto the ubb control panel.
PHP info.
Find:
suhosin.get.max_value_length

That is what it looks at.

I reported the updated error (shown above) to the webhost.

He responded by saying he was going to rebuild Apache without Suhosin, that it was more trouble than it was worth. He appears to be doing that now. How will that affect UBB sw?

Will check suhosin.get.max_value_length when site is again accessible.

The suhosin check in UBB.threads 7.5.9 displays the "warning message" if suhosin is detected, no matter if its the default value or adjusted way above what's actually needed by UBB.threads. The only way to disable that message (outside of editing the scripts) would be to disable suhosin completely.

The next release of UBB.threads will take care of the "suhosin warning" message much better. It will also give plenty more details regarding your suhosin settings in it's own section of the Control Panel.

Thanks for posting this feedback - every bit helps

Since you have the error message, would you be interested in beta testing the new checker? Our servers don't have these limitations so there is only so far I can get with dummy data...

I will let Giz or id242 comment but looking at the suhosin check in version 7.5.9 it states
<= 2048

Meaning less than or equal to 2048.

Probably should be just < 2048
If you host had made it say 2049 the warning would not appear?

Yeah, should really just be <, which is fixed in the new dataset I'm using

Site back up:

suhosin.get.max_value_length 2048 (local value) and 2048 (master value)

I am still getting the same warning (it's not just in cache - tried it from another computer just in case).

id242 seems to say that this is a nuisance warning?
Is this correct?
Am I safe to put the site back online???

Update. Message went away. My duh. I was thinking browser cache and not server cache.

Gizmo: If it would be useful for me to run your script and it would not harm anything, please contact me.

Well, theres no risk, it just removes this warning if it shouldn't be there (there are 3 vars it checks other than just suhosin being enabled), and introduces a statistics page which will show you recommendations, current values, and default settings.

All of the values being used for the check are provided by PHPMyAdmin's documentation.

The updated checker is here, please report any findings (keep in mind, I've been using dummy data thus far, this version pulls all live data).

OK. Files uploaded. Board is working fine. Not seeing anything different on the main control panel page. Everything is as usual.

Should I be looking at something else?

Thanks!

Just had an email from the webhost. He upgraded the site to PHP 5.4.37. I don't remember what the old version was.

Did the error disappear? It should NOT show if they're following all recommendations, there are 3 checks for suhosin); a new warning should display a link to the suhosin page that was added, what data shows on the page? Could you take a screen shot of the page for me (I need to be sure all checks populate properly).

If the page does not show that means that the suhosin check found no problems, could you go to the page manually by going to: admin/suhosin.php

For users experiencing that the suhosin check does not turn off when you're within parameters, please see my posting at UBBDev UBB.Threads Suhosin Check .

admin/suhosin.php

That does not exist in the public 7.5.9 release.

Yes. The error disappeared after they rebuilt Apache without Suhosin. There is nothing related to suhosin on the main control panel page.

If I go to admin/suhosin.php the following is displayed:

Quote
Suhosin Statistics

About Suhosin

The default configuration values of the Suhosin module are known to cause problems with some operations in some PHP scripts.

A default Suhosin configuration might lead to malfunctions in script preformance, such as writing blank configuration files in some cases. This behavior cannot be fully avoided due to how some PHP scripts work, by transfering large amounts of data in a single HTTP request; which is what the Suhosin module is designed to prevent.

Generally, all suhosin.request.*, suhosin.post.* and suhosin.get.* directives can have a negative impact on PHP script usability. You can generally locate dropped variables, configuration variables, and what limits you're hitting, in the webserver error logs that reside on your server.

Suhosin Status
The Suhosin module was not detected on your server.

Haha, well, I guess that's one way to do it... Thanks for the willingness to test it out, I really appreciate it smile.
