There are about a zillion UBBThreads look alikes that use the php/mySQL combination. I've used several of the different systems (as a regular user to various sites), but not heavily enough to have a decent opinion.
It seems as though someone, somewhere, should have done a review of them by now. Does anyone have a clue if such a review is available and where?
I like UBBThreads a lot and intended to puchase it, but the new member area renewal price has me again considering other options.
I don't know of a review on the 'net but I think Rick does.
The members area renewal is only $31 for an existing license holder of the wwwthreads licenses. A lot less expensive then a new license of another product. I hope that tilts your decision some <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
Dave, I think Moondoggy is talking about the $125 renewal price--sounds to me like he has YET to purchase, and the $31 was for existing (pre-Infopop) customers.
There are a couple places that you can get ratings by users like hotscripts.com. As for independent reviews, I have never found any to this point. Maybe someone else has run across some?

Lori is correct. I put off purchasing it until it was too late. Now I'm faced with (1) a higher purchase price, (2) a higher renewal price, (3) multiple copies no longer allowed, (4) other new restrictions.
I was looking more for the independent reviews that Rick mentions (thanks Rick!). The "reviews" at hotscripts, resourceindex, and similar sites are very suspect.
Unfortunately, it appears as if a real and comprehensive review doesn't exist. If I had time, I'd write one. (Hint to someone - if you want to become popular in the geek community, here's your chance.)
Im actually doing a very extensive review of php/sql and per/sql based forums. It will be more concentrated on actual benchmarking. All test data, server configurations and test methods will be published.
Forums tested will be phpbb2, Ikonboard3, Gforum (gossamer threads forum), Vbulletin and one other.
As I don'thave Ubbthreads I unfortunately can't benchmark it. I don't run a site so have no reason to buy it. All these tests are being done on computers not connected to the web.
If there was some way I could borrow a copy just to run these benchmarks I'd appreciate it.
I'm just waiting for another computer to arrive to run the actual benchmarks from. Running the benchmarking tool and web server/database on the same server doesn't produce accurate results.
Some preliminary testing has shown some quite interesting results.
If you could email me with your contact information I'll make sure you get whatever you need to include UBBThreads in your review. We'd love for you to consider it.
Any "interesting results" that you can share at this point???

Michael Moore mmoore@infopop.com</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="" face="">I emailed you. I don't want to make any comments on different forum software in public. I'll just release benchmark results.
Have to be careful what you say these days and my comments are usually pretty straight to the point so better they are better kept to email.
