I've been trying to use the avatar upload feature in order to use a personal photo as my avatar. The image is 96x96 and is in a .png format. It says it has been uploaded and I can find it in my sites file manager. Yet it will not show up as my Avatar. If I move it over to the "default" avatar folder I can then choose it. Not sure what I'm missing here unless it's a permission issue??? Also, it's 16kb and the maximum size is set at 256kb.

first I would do a permission check in the ubb cp.
It should show all okay.
Now it does not check all folders and files. but it is a start.
Second I would double check:
Control Panel / Profile Settings[-] Avatars

Absolute PATH to Avatar Upload Storage Directory
Example: /home/public_html/forums/avatars
But also make sure you click on the Test Directory link on the next line.
That writes a test file to that folder that is required.
It will provide a pass or fail popup if file permissions are okay or not.
To double check open your file manager and there should be a file like test.php in the correct folder.

Next double check:
Full URL To Avatar Upload Storage Directory
Example: http://www.example.com/forums/avatars
For this to be correct it would be the same path you use with a browser to view the image.

So if you say the file is on the site, Then you should be able to type the path in a browser to view it now.
Even if it does not show in the forum.
What ever that path is, that is what you use. don't forget the http and or www part of the url

The rest are sizes and should be okay as from what you say.

Select the update button and it should work.
Unless you have a cache issue that needs to be cleared.

Nope, didn't work. In fact, the only way to make it show up is to drop it into the default folder for avatars. I've rechecked all the permissions and it's not being saved even if I use the complete path to it. And yes, I can use my browser and plug in the same thing I'm trying to use in the software and it finds the image just fine.

well you may need to do a browser and ubb clear cache for all of it.
Since we don't have paths provided by you we can only guess.

We posted at the same time.
what is the path to your avatar and forum?

I got your PM but it is a invalid url.
You have just added http to your absolute path.
That is not what a browser uses to visit the site.

You can't just add http to your absolute path for url paths.
It has to start with you domain name for url paths.

Once you change it it should work okay

Let us know if it works!

Yes, with the help of Ruben it's sorted out now. I hadn't done anything since 2006 so I needed to get refreshed.
