Hey folks
See the question from one of our members.
Do you have an answer about ignoring a thread?

Thanks
Morgan

hey morgan

i have a question

is there an option in the forum software to allow members to check "ignore thread. . .?"

lots of forums have an option available that allows a user to make a particular thread invisible to them, if they find that it makes their ears steam and causes them to say bad words.

i personally have a short temper with people i regard as loud-mouthed morons, and so being able to simply make that thread invisible to me would go a long way to keeping my own loudmouthed opinions out of that conversation.

just a thought. thank you for keeping this place open and available. it is without peer in its field, seriously.

ciao

The only option is/was ignore user,
I think it is gone with the current version for users.
I never use it
But it is not bulletproof.

I do not see a setting for it in 7.7.4 But I do know admins have the option.
From the 7.7.4 changelog:
Quote
Posts from Ignored Users will now be completely hidden and replaced with a link to toggle its display, for if the blocking member chooses to view it.
As I said I can't seem to find a setting for it so maybe it is a hard coded thing just for admins

A regular post:
[Linked Image]
...

Going to Oreo's profile and clicking "Ignore User"
NOTE: You cannot ignore an Admin or Moderator.
- All "User" member level accounts can be ignored.
- Member level "Moderator", "Global Moderator", and "Administrator" accounts cannot be ignored by any member levels, but they can ignore "User" member level accounts.

...

A post by a user that is ignored:

...

A post by a user that is ignored, that is expanded:

NOTE: Although these screenshots are from UBB.threads 7.7.5, the process is the same in all 7.5 / 7.6 / 7.7, and the display is very similar in all 7.7 versions of UBB.threads.

A few of the main results when you ignore a user:
- their post replies are hidden from direct view
- you will not be notified of their replies
- they cannot send you private messages. This includes creating and replying to you.

There are other actions that happen, but I dont recall what they are at this moment.

If an unignored user quotes someone you are ignoring, the text will be displayed normally because it is a complete post created by an unignored user.

If there is a questionable user, post, or thread, it should be reported to the forum moderator so it can be dealt with.

If Morgan is not a moderator or admin here I don't have the ignore button for him here.
Nor do I get the option on any other regular user
Or are you saying as a moderator I can't ignore anyone.
I can at three other sites but I am a admin at all of them
Could it be 7,7.5 since the other sites are 7.7.4

Moderators and Global Moderators cannot ignore users because its basically their job to read what has been posted the forums they moderate. If they ignore users, they wont be able to easily work with approved, unapproved, open, closed, and reported posts. Moderators also should be available to accept private messages from users. Moderators are a level of "law" on the forums, and should be reachable.

Your account is setup as a Global Moderator member level here on UBBCentral. I hope this description helps to make better sense of it all smile

Thanks but as a admin v7.7.4 does allow me to ignore regular users at least at 4 other sites.
I thought it did inhibit admins also from ignore

Just mods and global mods.

Admins have full access to every feature. no limitations. Admins are the manager for the entire forum and the complete forum settings and forum software configuration on the server. This is why it is so important to reduce the number of users who have admin access on your site to as close to 1 as you can, and have complex passwords for admin accounts.

This has always been the way. It is not unique to version 7.7.4, or any version of UBB.threads, or even to UBB.threads at all.
