I have a 2 part question...

If someone starts a thread does it automatically get added to their follow list?

What I really want to know is...

If they are following a thread and it is moved for some reason to a Forum only accessible to Mods for review does the OP (or anyone following it) still get an email showing whatever new posts are added to that thread?

For the first question.
The default is turned on to follow the thread.
They have to manually deselect it when they first post if they use the full editor. if they go back to edit, the option does not appear.
This is hard coded and not a config option.(it could be changed to default to no by editing the script)
The member has the option on their follow list menu from the top right to edit those already followed and either delete ,notify or not notify.
Or in their preferences to not be notified at all even future watched items.

On the second question
I never have tested that scenario but I believe it will still be in their follow list and if they are set for notifications they will get the email.
However I do not believe that they can access it if it moved to a private forum.

Unless the user has access to the forum where the post resides, they should not receive any notifications as there are checks to validate if they have permissions to access posts in the forum the post now resides in; this check resides in the notification coding.

Additionally, if they click on a link in an old email notification to that thread it will show them that they do not have permissions to access the target post/thread as they wouldn't have access to that forum.

Giz,
But if they have notification already on with a forum that they did have access to.
Then the post is moved to a forum they do not have access and somebody posts a reply.
Will they not get a email with a excerpt of the message.
Even though they do not have access?

I think Bills concern is in that scenario that it is moved for moderation.
Somebody makes a derogatory or contrary comment and the emails tells the member so.
Even though they can't access the complete posts

If this is all not true now then good pre catch on you guys.

Ruben,

That's exactly my concern. I did manage to test it out. As a Member I created a new thread and made sure I was following it. As Admin I moved it to an area inaccessible to Members and made a post to it.

I, as a Member did not get an email with the contents of that new post, and the thread was no longer on my Follow List. As Admin I moved the thread back into the public area and it was still not on my Member's Follow List.

So... All is working as it should!!! thumbsup thumbsup

Checking permissions is always a part of any logic we have to write; even down to the likes script... Just one of many little things when working with UBB.threads (such as the logic required for an admin page to check proper elevated account permissions for various pages).
