Can anyone tell me the difference between managed and unmanaged VPS hosting? Once my forum gets busier, I will need to switch to VPS from shared hosting but I want to know the difference in the VPS options.
Thanks!

Managed hosting cost more money, includes them doing updates for you. Unmanaged is cheaper because you do all of the updates manually.

If this is your first step up from shared hosting to VPS or Dedicated hosting I would suggest you go with managed at first Updating the server software can be very involved. BTW shared hosting is managed.

That’s good to know. For now, I’m staying with shared. As my forum grows and the demanded to upgrade comes, I’ll make the switch.

Business/Pro hosting are usually managed as well, usually similar prices to a VPS but resources vary.
