Is there a way to embed images right in a post without having to upload them elsewhere and use BBCode to add them?

No.
Only youtube videos can be embedded with just the url without using BB code tags now.

But you don't need to know the bb tag up front just select the picture frame icon in the full editor

and it will do it for you.

Oh wait .
If you allow uploads to your site they can upload images via the attachment manager.
Then you can set in the UBB control panel what size image will display initially(inline) or if it is a link to click on to open he image..

I see that but on mine the attachment manager does not show up...how do I enable that to show up?
