Is there a way to mirror the database so that queries from the forum would be handled by whichever database was least busy? (I'm thinking of this as a way to distribute the load when we get overwhelmed by bots that create backups on the queries.)

A mirrored database is a real-time, redundant copy of a primary database used for high availability and disaster recovery. It is a complete backup that stays synchronized with the principal database, allowing for an immediate failover if the primary fails. This mirroring can be set up on the database level, and modern systems often include technologies to automate the process and handle data in different formats, such as delta tables in platforms like Microsoft Fabric.

It seems like what you're looking for is a specific type of server setup. UBB.threads is a basic PHP script software that points to a single database location. If you require a high-end hardware solution, you probably should contact your hosting company to see what options they have available to you.
