New user approval setting went away after upgrading to 8. Now I have re-enabled it (via "Enable Registration Queue"), but I'm not getting emails asking to approve a new user. Where is the Administrator email address specified?

All other email is going through without any problem. When a user registers, they receive the email confirmation message.
I also tried "Send Email" (under "Tools & Information") and that email also goes through.

Also, where do I specify Google recaptcha keys in the Control Panel?

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure why your New user approval settings would go away with an upgrade, as thats not something that was removed from UBBT 8

The email address that the notifications get sent to is per admin/moderator who has permission. that setting is within their Account Profile and account Preference pages.

Forums > Settings (your user name): Preferences
Bottom of the list, within the "Moderator and Administrator Email Notifications" section.

From where the emails come from, which are sent to the new users,
Control Panel > General: General Settings
as Forum Email Address

For reCAPTCHA -
Control Panel > General: CAPTCHA Settings

Not sure what happened during the upgrade, but both work now. Thanks for your help.

Two more questions.
1. Even after implementing captcha and user approval process there's no guarantee that the new user is not a spammer. Is there an option to require a user's first post to be approved? I was able to find settings where all posts have to be approved or none.

2. I did "Backup Tables" under "Database Tools". Before that did "(Test Directory)" and the absolute path is writable.
The backup took several minutes and ended with this message:
Backing up table data for ubbt_polltemp...
Complete at 2025-12-21 06:19:06
But the backup directory has no backup file(s).

PS: It would be nice if the configuration options were searchable. There are so many options spread over so many screens.

We did this on our forum. The default user group for newly registered members is Users. We placed the group in moderation. We created a new group named Members. To join that group, you have to four approved posts. (That's configurable.) So, when a new person registers, they are automatically placed in moderation until they have had four posts approved. Members of the Users group also cannot post HTML, cannot have a signature, cannot view the members list, and cannot send private messages. All of these are configurable in the Group Permissions.
