When I delete someone's post as the admin, I want the whole thing gone, rather than for it to say "This post has been deleted by Admin"

Can I do that?

Also, is there a way to allow users to edit but not delete their posts? I know they could edit it to no text, so I'm not sure if this question can make sense, but if you had an answer nonetheless, I could pass it to my co-admin that asked me it in the first place :-)

Thanks,

Gary

and they told me that if a post has replies it can no be completely deleted...

Also... all users can edit their posts but the have a time limit to do that... you can set this time from your admin panel...

It's a placeholder - the idea is that the thread is otherwise broken up when you 'remove' those posts. So, this is the alternative - it provides context as opposed to "Why does this not look right?" it's more like - "Ah, ha - these posts were made by someone or about something that the Admin has decided do not belong here."

Thought I would bring this up again as it also bothers me that I cannot make a single post disappear. I am disappointed this is not an option for the new UBBt.

Sometimes the new users do double posting and it does nothing for the thread but clutter it up. There should be an option to delete these type of things.

If the thread is edited by Admin. other users generally assume that there was some board rule broken and this is why editing was necessary. This is not always the case and also does nothing for the thread. Other infopop products give us this option so why not UBBt.

Please put this on your things to do list for the next version.

In the mean time if anybody can tell me a simple way around this without resorting to approving post I would appreciate it.

There IS an option to "delete this post" as opposed to "Delete this thread".

It will disappear completely if there are no replies to it. It only remains with the "deleted" message if there's a reply to it. The way threads work... that post may have been a "parent" to replies.... and thus you can't "break the chain" so to speak.

There is a little tweak at www.threadsdev.com to give you a checkbox to avoid the "edited by" tag if you are an admin or mod. I agree... sometimes I need to fix something technical and like to avoid the "edited by" tag.

Thanks for the input and guidance.
I went to threadsdev and searched for the tweak using edited by as key word and could not find it. Also had a look at the finished mods and didn't see it there either.
Could you be more specific so I can locate it?

Thanks

I couldn't find it at threadsdev either. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

But I had saved a copy of it on my machine. It was written by Dave_L.... hope he doesn't mind me posting it.

<pre>Let admins and mods suppress the "edited by" annotation.

Sometimes I edit someone else's post just to make a trivial change, such as fixing the title, and I'd prefer to suppress the "edited-by".

The following change only involves commenting-out a few lines. The commented-out lines could also be deleted.

In editpost.php, change:

if ( $Username == $Postedby ) {
$markeditselect = "<br /><br /><input type=\"checkbox\" value=\"1\" name=\"markedit\" checked class=\"formboxes\" /> {$ubbt_lang['MARK_EDIT']}";
}
else {
$markeditselect = "<input type=\"hidden\" value=\"1\" name=\"markedit\" class=\"formboxes\" />";
}

to:

// DAVE MOD BEGIN
// 07/11/02 Dave Lerner
// Let admins and mods suppress the "edited by" annotation.
// if ( $Username == $Postedby ) {
$markeditselect = "<br /><br /><input type=\"checkbox\" value=\"1\" name=\"markedit\" checked class=\"formboxes\" /> {$ubbt_lang['MARK_EDIT']}<br /><br />";
// }
// else {
// $markeditselect = "<input type=\"hidden\" value=\"1\" name=\"markedit\" class=\"formboxes\" />";
// }
// DAVE MOD END

</pre>
