I am using v.5.4.4. If I change the password to MySQL database in the server, where and how many files do I have to change in UBBTreads to make everyting work again with MySQL?

You just have to change it in config.inc.php.

What is the exact syntax for changing the password from the "execute a sql command" form in the admin section?

I'm going to do this and change what's in config.inc.php to match. Using 5.4.5 at the moment. Anything else?

My host said I was not allowed to change the mysql password directly, so they did it for me. I changed the password in config.inc.php.

Then I get error messages!!! The boards are closed for now. What do I do? I don't see what else would need to be changed. Does changing the password by itself alter something??

The password was wrong. That was all. My host did not change it to the one I requested and could not be contacted "after hours." Once they told me what it was, and I adjusted config.inc.php, it worked fine.
