Hello.
I a user sent me this message:

I'm trying to post a question and get
"the host is not a valid host" or similar
what am I doing wrong?

Your user is using a firewall blocking the referrer information. They either need to turn off their firewall (or add your site to trusted sites) - or you can disable the referrer check in your config file. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Will anything bad happen if I disable the referer check?

Not really - it does potentially allow someone to create a remote script to spam your board etc... but it's a long shot and alot of boards run with it off.

Thanks Josh. The config setting doesn't tell much about this feature.

What is the purpose of the referrer check?

Like Josh said above... It prevents people from being able to run a remote script to spam your board. Its a good security feature, but with all the firewalls people use today and the general unlikelyness of this type of attack being used against you, its pretty common to run with it off.
