We've just updated this test site to beta 5. This should be our last beta release before we start working on an actual release candidate.
This beta release includes the upgrade script that will verify that you've uploaded all of the proper scripts/templates, it will also make sure your language files have been updated. If your language files are writeable by the webserver it will actually change all of the language strings for you or add any new ones. This way if you've modified your language strings it will only modify those that have actually been changed since the last release. The last step is where it will actually update your database to the current version.
We should have this available in the members area for download early next week.

i understood that upgrading from classic to the new version 7 would be free. i have just got a notice informing me that i will have to pay more money, after waiting all this time for the new version. is this really the case?

It is free assuming you have a current renewal to download and support in place.
In otherwords you do not need to purchase another piece of software - just the ability to download.
This is true of any software company that charges a yearly or six monthly support/download fee.
In most cases it is $125 for 12 months (current pricing).
Hope that helps.

Hi, I can't comment on the current pricing policy - all I can state is how it stands at the moment. I have more than one account and I know to renew one that has expired will cost $125. Let's hope Dollar gets weaker

we were told in may that classic users could upgrade to the new version as soon as it was ready. after some delay, now that this version is ready to release, we are told to pay. this is just a tad dishonest, don't you agree?

Sorry - can't see how it is dishonest - you are able to upgrade as long as you have a valid subscription - you were not compelled to have a continuous subscription and only need to have it valid if you wish to download or get suport. In otherwords if your subscription expired a year ago, you are not being asked to pay for this period.
This is no different to VB, FusionBB, PhotoPost or any other professional product.

Actually, it's not convenient. By intentionally delaying anything we end up losing more than we do gaining. People won't wait forever and because of the time it took to get version 7 to this point we've lost quite a few customers. We are in no way coming out ahead on this. And we're definitely not stretching out the beta release just to get more renewals, again we don't gain anything by making this take any longer than necessary. We just want to make sure we have a stable product before calling it final. Renewals are always going to come up. Even if someone gets 7.0 right before their renewal expires, there is almost always a .0.1 release that follows afterwards to fix any bugs caught when everyone upgrades, so they'd have to renew then to get the update.

When I hit my one year renewal time, I didn't hesitate to upgrade to the lifetime license, which will pay for itself in several years. I'm planning on being here for the long run.

I am just some random guy (with a lifetime license) but wouldn't this problem be better handled via email with the power to be at UBB?

But then you wouldn't have an audience The way member area privileges are handled with groupee is no different than any other professional product that I am aware of. To think they're delaying the release a little while longer to gain a couple more renewals after the last 2 years they've had already is more than a little unfunny and shows a profound misunderstanding of any type of business - no-one gains anything from a delayed release for the sake of delay (except maybe the competition).

The way groupie works is the same with any licensing with any proider; you buy a license and are given access to upgrades for a set ammount of time; when your access expires you have to renew to be able to download upgrades...
It ensures a better product, it takes time to code, to expect everythign to always be free is just silly...

In fact you were told that the upgrade is free provided your member area is up to date. This is the exact quote from the text of my message Existing UBB.classic license holders may convert to UBB.threads at no extra cost, assuming their license’s Member Area access has not expired. I'm sorry if for some reason you did not notice the entirety of that. The full text of the announcement is posted here for your review.

I'm not a mod on these beta forums either, AA. It's ok, one less for me to worry about.

I've imported several UBB.T forums to UBB.T7, import goes smooth and everything imported without issue.
