Recently converted UBB.classic to UBB.threads
and my users are asking:

"How do I stop threads from opening at bottom of page? when I click on orange folders pages opens at last post even though I have never read thread ..

I did not see any place to change this setting. Can you please advise.."

What is causing this behavior? How can the
thread always open to the lst post in that
thread?

That's the trouble, the existing code looks for the lastpost number. I didn't see anyway of having it look for the first number of the thread.

If you clicked on the subject of the post while viewing postlist.php it would take you to the last unread post. If you had not read any posts in the thread you would be taken to the main post itself. I have just tested this on 6.2 br2 and it does exactly that.

I believe this has been a standard feature for a while. It makes sense to go to the first post of the thread if the entire thread is new to you or to the last new post if you have been following along.

As JustDave says, this is normal behaviour.

Could it be that this "annoyance" is just with new users? I believe that whena new account is created all previous posts are marked as read. Thus the users clicking on a subject will be taken to posts posted _after_ their registration time.

Over time, this issue will resolve itself.

However, if you really do want to change the behaviour and always want posts to go to the first post in a thread (showflat.php) - look for the part where it adds:
&fpart=1#Post123
(it can be anything after the =)

This is the argument that causes the jump to the last unread post in the thread. Remove this argument and you'll always start at the first post.

Go into your admin area. (Forum, not server)

Choose to edit the config.

In there, look for dynamic post tracking.

Turn that off.

Now, all threads will open up at the first post in the thread, no matter whether you have read it or not.

Of course, you may now have people complaining that they are having to scroll through posts they have already read.

JustDave is right. The thread should be opening at the first post that the person has not read. If they have read none, it should open at the first post. If they have read 22 of 45. it should open at number 23.

I have not seen, myself, nor heard anyone else mention that when you register, all posts are marked read, and only posts made after that are marked new. That is totaly news to me. Thank you Qube. I will have to experiment to see if that is true on my board.
