My board has over 200,000 posts with 6,000 plus users over 10 forums.

The forum structure of v7 is different than the 6.5.2 that I am currently running.

How can the posts on my v6 be mapped into v7?

The only thing I can think of is FIRST, the import has to be done and THEN the new board can be configured? Am I correct?

Do I need to upgrade to version 7 first and import all my posts and users and then configure v7?

Basically, the process is you need to do a new install of version 7, electing not to create your first admin user. At that point you need to download the threads import zip for version 7 from the members area, and extrac that into your importers directory. There is a small readme in there that explains the couple steps you need to do at that point.

It should work with all of 6.5.x

So the importer isn't included in the version 7 files, but instead is a separate download?

Yes, all of the importers are seperate downloads in the members area. Since once an importer is used it needs to be deleted from the server, we didn't want to include all the importers in the zip file as it would be too easy to forget one of them.

Not to mention its easier to upgrade an importer due to an error than to push out a new install zip for any updates wink

So I can upgrade from 6.5.5 to version 7 and import into a separate ubbthreads2 folder and database from 6.5.5 in the ubbthreads folder and still leave 6.5.5 and its database fully functional and intact just in case for some reason version 7 doesn't work?

Trying to make a decision here.
Currently running Classic 6.7.2 on my Barnegat Fishin' Hole Web Site.
I'm working with Threads 6.5.5 to see how I can obtain the look and feel most like what I have. The classic forums are here.
The Threads 6.5 test forum is here.
I really want to go to Threads 7.
So my question is:
What is your best advice -
Should I continue playing with 6.5.5 or should install 7(Beta) and work towards customizing that instead???
What is the easiest import route Classic to 6.5 or to 7.?

Appreciate the time an effort for you guys to look at this?

The import from classic to 7.0 will import the most data. classic to 6.5.5 will only import forums, categories, posts, users and PMs. The 7.0 importer will grab much more including polls, moderators, etc.

Since we're just about ready to release the final of 7.0 I'd probably spend your time working on 7. Any time you spend on getting 6.5.5 to look like your old site will be a bit wasted as 7.0 has a whole new style system so you'd need to do all that work over again when you switched.

Thanks Rick:
You confirmed my suspicions. I really like what I've seen in 6.5 and it looks like 7 will be easier to convert to.

Well, I chose to do and upgrade to 7.0 .
Totally blown out of the water.
I thought it would be an uneventful task.
But got errors the files couldn't be found. They were all in directories on the 7.0rc1.zip file that the instruction didn't cover.
After moving them over I got other errors.
So now the 6.5.5 board that I was playing with is useless.
Can't get in.
I'll delete it and load the 7.0rc01 without trying and upgrade.
Not much lost because there was only a few testing things done.
I need the practice any how. Just hope when I do the "REAL" conversion from Classic it goes smooth. I'll have a backup then!!!

OK, I loaded 7.rc01 and made some mods to. I got a good feel for what's coming in 7.0.
Now from here what's the best path for me to take:
Upgrade to 7.0 then Import from Classic or
Import thaen Upgrade??
From what Rick said in an early post, I don't think I'll lose anything that I've done in 7.0-RC1 during the upgrade.

Thanks to Kiniro for the style he made available for downloading.
Looks great.

By the way, great conversion to 7.0 amd new web site.

You'll want to upgrade to the final of version 7.0 first and then do your import. When upgrading just make sure you don't overwrite your includes, styles or your cache_builders/custom directory and you won't lose any of your changes from rc1.

Should I do a full install of version 7 including creating an admin and the database tables as well as deleting the Install files/directory before doing the import/upgrade from Threads 6.5.5?

I ask as the Version 7 Installation Guide says nothing about this.

Another question:

Can I do a full installation with admin, database tables, a forum or two, a category or two, and everything else, test it out, and then, if all goes well, do the import from UBB Threads 6.5.5?

I hope you don't mind my asking these questions as I really want to be certain before doing anything.

I'll need to make sure this is clarified in the install or upgrade guide. You don't need to create the admin user, as this will be imported, but you will want to create the database tables and remove the install files/directory.
