The forum was installed by a person who is no longer on staff (don't ask <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />), and we don't have the password. How do we change the password for the database?

The database password would be something that your host would need to change.
This is generally information supplied to you when your hosting account is setup or they create the database for you.
