If the subscriptions cron job runs more often then a user checks posts, will they receive notification that a thread has been updated each time the cron job runs.

That is, a user checks a thread at 10am and subscribes to it. An update is made to the thread at 10:05am and the user does not recheck the thread. The cron job runs subscriptions at 11am, noon, and 1pm. Will the user receive three notifications of this single update? What if an update is made between when two cron jobs run, will the user receive another notification?

I want a user to know there has been activity on a thread, but I don't want them to get multiple messages if the cron job is run many time but there is only one update.

When the subscriptions cron runs it updates a table that stores the last message id in each thread. So, when the subscription cron runs again it will only send out posts that were made after the last time it has run. It's not based of the user's last visit to the thread at all, so no duplicates will be sent <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I sometimes get a situation where only some members get their update in one particular forum.

All the other forum updates seem to work, but then they don't have nearly the subscriber numbers as this one in question, so maybe that's why(?).

For example, today, 3 members got their subscription update in this one forum which is updated once per day or so with a new post. This, according to the subscriptions table in the database. But there are nearly 100 subscribers including me who didn't get my update.

I've had to work around this by deleting the last post, reposting it, then manually running subscriptions.php so it gets sent out.
