We have an existing set of forums, and want to change the main index to display just the main categories only. I changed the config settings in the admin panel (version 6.2.3), but we are still seeing all the forums listed on the main index page. What do you think the problem could be?
Those changes to the config file will only affect anonymous users and new users from that point on. Existing users (including yourself) will need to alter their preference in the display prefs area of "My Home"
If you wanted to do an SQL query to set all existing users to categories - you could do this: (backup your database first)
Also - the URL you posted has a double slash // in the URL. This can create some problems for you - double check your config file settings - somewhere there's a trailing slash / in one of the URL settings. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Hmmmm...even after I logged out, and went in anonymously, I still don't see the changes. I tried deleting cookies, and using different browsers, and still don't see it...
Maybe it has to do with the extra /...i will look for that.
As Josh explained, each user can choose their own view (forums or cats). If you prefer to have the cats page be the primary index page than only link to it as I have shown above.
