I have several users complaining that when they open a post for the first time, it takes them to random places in the post.
Is this cache? Cookies?
How do I instruct them to fix the problem?
I know, this is basic, but so am I!

Actually it takes them to the first unread post - unlike classic which always takes you to the top.

It may be a bit goofy at first what post (within the thread) is new for them, since you converted from classic - but standard behavoir is to always jump down.

To get a better handle on this, if they are newly converted, they could "mark all read" and have a fresh start.

OK, thank you, but they complain it is inconsistent. That they haven't read it, and that it still jumps them to the bottom.
I'll have them mark all as read, and see if it works for them.
Thanks,

Also - if they've visited that forum before - during the next browser session that essentially marks all those posts read up to that point. So when you go into a forum, it's best to read all the unread posts within the forum otherwise the whole forum gets marked as read on your next visit.

(It's forum based and doesn't track the individual posts).

The new post tracking has been reworked in 6.5 and also offers an option to instead start at the top of the thread instead of the first new post for them.

I visit more than a boatload of forums using UBB.Threads - the new post tracking mechinism is generally right on and works better than any other product currently on the market.

OK, thank you. I'll tell them what you told me.
Can I give them a raspberry, too?

I have the opposite problem...

After upgrading from 6.3.1 to 6.4.2, users complain that they are NOT being jumped down to the latest unread post. Is there a preference or something in the Admin panel to control this?

JC posted a link to a post about 6.5 - but it doesn't really relate as your question was about 6.4.2. Thats a bug - the jumper is broken in 6.4.2 (as you'll see even here at this board). I posted this fix in this thread:
