In 6.4.b1, how can I remove a calendar item?

i haven't tried this in your version, but i don't think it changed between your version and 6.4.1: when you view the day and have the event listed in front of you, the option to edit should be on the far left hand side. click that, and you'll be given the opportunity to delete the item on the edit page.
