These don't work on our forum but I'm not quite sure why.

The error you get when you send a PM and the person you send to has selected to get an e-mail notification is:

Warning: mail(): SMTP server response: 505 5.7.3 Client was not authenticated in D:\wwwroot\www_fishingwarehouse_co_uk\ubbthreads\viewmessage.php on line 196

line 196 in viewmessage.php is:

$mailsend = mail("$Email","$subject","$msg",$header);

Now I'm guessing that there is either a problem in the php.ini file to do with the address that the e-mail is sent as or there is a problem in the script that sends the mail somewhere. Unfortunatelly I have no Idea how these mails are sent so don't know where to start. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

You might try editing the first option under the special/misc settings in your config settings.

Some servers require the [][email protected][/] parameter to send email. Normally this is not the case so this should stay off. However, if you are not receiving email you can try turning this on.

Try turning that on, if it isn't already.

Rick were using ubbt 6.2.3.

The first option at the top of the special/misc settings is for the admin.log file location. I can't see any settings to do with e-mail, that is why I was wondering if it was the php.ini that may be wrong or some other script that sends the mail.

P.S. I realise I'm getting quite a lot of free support through these forums which I'm very greatful for. We do actually have a support contract with you I understand but I'm trying to get the serial no's etc. from the old administrator (the guy who setup our forums).

Your SMTP server is configured to require "check before send". UBB.threads has no facilites to be able to do this. You'll need to use an SMTP server that will allow you to relay without auth first.
