Interesting. When typing in Word, or Excel, a link is automatically hyperlinked even if you don't format it so.

Out of curiosity, is it a problem? Can you give me the situation that you're thinking of, where the hyperlinking of a URL is an issue?

Actually it is only automatically hyperlinked if the settings say so. If you turn it off, then it is off. I would expect the same behavior here.

It is a cosmetic problem for the most part.
