This is completely embarassing, but how do I backup my database?

There is no Database option in my menu, and I can't upgrade w/o backing up first.

To make things worse, it appears that I am shut out of the PHPAdmin portion of my website. It asks me for a password and I have no idea whatsoever what the password is. I inherited the site from a Swedish couple in 2002 and I don't have any contact with them any more. That means I don't have any documentation of any sort. So I'm basically flying blind at this point. The only web experience I have is basic HTML. No SQL, PERL, php or any of that fun stuff. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Thank you so much for any help you can provide. My site has hundreds of members and they have been very patient with all the SQL errors we've been getting.

Sincerely,
Christa Wilkin

You could reinstall your own copy of phpMyAdmin - it's free from www.phpmyadmin.net
You could also look in the config.inc.php file with a text editor, your database password would be in there.

Thank you for the kind reply, however I don't know anything about PHPMyAdmin either! I don't want to reinstall a software I don't understand without backing up what I do have in the forums. We have over two years' worth of posts in our database and I'm very nervous about losing any of them.

Anyone know how to do a backup in UBBT 5.5.1?

Thanks!

You can't. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> You would have to use something like phpMyAdmin or some other utility which allows you to access and dump(backup) the database. It also could be done from the command line if you have access to mysqldump.

After you're properly backed up and all that, you really, really need to upgrade. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'd love to, but the people I inherited the site from never gave me the license number or told me how long the license is good for. So I'm stuck with what I have and whatever is free until whenever. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I've done some repair tables commands and that appears to have helped stabilize the site (thanks to the thoughtful person who put those commonly-used SQL commands up there!)

I can't speak for infopop - but I've had clients in your situation before - open a ticket with infopop - be sure to include the domain name, name on file etc... and they can usually help you sort it out.
