To enable spider friendly URL's it says that PATH_INFO has to be working correctly. How do I tell if it is?

Also, can I enable this feature on the fly? Is it ok if it is an old board or can you only do this on a new board?

It's a feature of 6.5 and higher. To see if it's working, try it. If not, you can ask your host. This topic is also a good read:

So I guess you are saying that you can make the change on the fly and then see if the board works. If not just change it back. No ill effects?????

Right, the worse that happens is when you try to access a post, it's either "not found" or the script throws a page not found type error.

Ok. found the problem. Had to edit my httpd.conf file:

If you are using Apache 2.0.30 or higher, you will also need to enable PATH_INFO support by adding the following line to your httpd.conf file:

AcceptPathInfo On

Looks like this may have broke the display of images though. Most of the icons now just come up with a broken x instead of the image that is sposed to be there. Any ideas?

Check your config file and try using a full URL (http://www.yourdomain.com/ubbthreads/images) instead of a relative one (/images) because the slashes will confuse what the real directory is. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
