Hi
A couple of my users are persistently getting this message when trying to post...

"We Cannot Proceed"
"The host you are trying to send the input from is not a valid host. Please use your back button to return to the previous page."

Has anyone come across this before? And does anyone know why they are getting this message??

Thanks

This is an individual firewall issue. The members receiving this error need to add your site to their list of acceptable sites in their firewall software.

Cheers.
I'll give this a go with the 'problem' users.

Thanks

Okay. Even with the personal firewall's disabled, they are still recieving this message. This leads me to suspect browser issues.
I'd appreciate a steer on this from anyone else - surely can't be the only person suffering from this...

Okay, i'll get one of them to check, although in my experience, running something like Norton IS will mean that windows XP firewall is disabled anyway.

Thanks

Should this be checked or unchecked (sorry for being dense!)

I had it unchecked previously and had checked it this morning.

Whilst i'm 'net' savy, i'm not entirely sure I understand what the 'disable http referer check' option does.

Basically the referrer check verifies when they post, they they were posting from a page on your site, and not some kind of bot or offsite spamming script. But if the user has a firewall (hardware or software) and it's blocking the sending of the referrer information, then the script can't tell it's a legitimate reqest, since there's no info. Thus it gets blocked.

For firewall users, if you leave the check on, they will have to add your site to a list of trusted sites if they want to post, so the referrer info is sent.

To make it easy on users, you can disable this. Many sites run with this disabled.

Okay.
Have done several things and they have all slotted together fine.
Got one of my main testers to check his firewall settings. Norton helpline gave him some advice about configuring his firewall to enable site access without too many issues or security holes. I also checked the checkbox to disable the refer check. This seems to have done the trick for the others.

Thanks to all who chipped in with usefull info. You have all been very helpfull. I hope oneday to be able to return the favours (i'm fairly strong on Oracle).

Cheers
