I have read several threads here mentioning Stickey Threads and that they can be turned on by Admins and Moderators. I am running 6.3.1 and have not seen anything about activating this feature in any of the docs I have, or the CP.

Is it really there, or a Hack?

There is no sticky topics feature currently in UBB.classic... thus it must be a hack. We do plan to add a "sticky topics" feature to UBB.classic in the future, however, FYI.

What about topic views, will you be adding that too?

Thanks

Hi tenshu-

Unfortunately, no, topic views will not be added to UBB.classic. We've discussed this previously in other topics. That feature is available in UBB.threads and UBB.x, however.

6.5 last time I heard. Cya in half a year. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
At this development rate it'll take over a year for UBB just to catch up to most of the features all the free boards already offer, let alone add anything new. Is this sad or what?

Tragic.

When will the "free boards" catch up with Infopop's level of support and the promise of a steady future? <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Considering that I never needed actual tech support in 4 years, that comments doesn't move me in the slightest. And if all the free ones stop adding new features and improving new ones this second, they'll still have a year head start. I simply can't believe that I can see features we have to beg & wait for here for months being added to some of the free boards out there in a couple of weeks, by people who do it for fun, not money! Seriously, for the money Infopop charges for UBB it should have all those "on the whiteboard" features in right now, not in the next half year to one year. But anyway, I went through this rant before. I still believe that Infopop is sleeping on the laurels of past glory with Ubb.classic. It's obvious that next to threads and the like it's a side product that isn't getting that much attention any more, but this attitude WILL have negative consequences, trust me on this. Don't get me wrong, I love UBB and I've been using it for ages, but I see upstart php boards coming along over the night with more features than UBB.classic has after years of development. Once all these put together scripts for importing UBB.classic data, Infopop WILL lose customers unless they can at least match all those features, if not exceed them.

I don't know, am I really the only one that is not blind to this fact? The policy of holding back on features will not pay off in the long term.

Here's my .25 (severe inflation)

You have 2 options when it comes to features -

A) Get the features now! But half of them are coded half-assed and don't work right (releasing 6.3.1.19 and so on)

B) Get the features later, but they are quality coding that works with a few minor glitches.

As a developer, you have to balance the needs of the users, based on what is feesable. You have to find a middle ground, and personally, I feel that they have found a decent middle ground when it comes to the development cycle. No matter what Infopop decides on how fast they want to roll out features, someone will complain that it is either too fast or too slow.

90% of being smart is knowing what you are dumb at.

Keep in mind also that Infopop does not have only one piece of software, so we are continuously developing multiple products, to meet different user needs. UBB.classic, UBB.threads, UBB.x and OpenTopic (Among OTHER little projects...hehehe <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> ) are very different products that must be developed and maintained simultaneously. So we're not purposely "holding back features", just trying to get features for EVERY product out as fast as we can. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
