We want to pull in a few threads from the message boards to our homepage which is being built in PHP. Is there a way to access threads by topic or date or any way at all so that we can pull them into a
place on the site other than the message boards themselves? Is there documentation on this? Does it have to be done in cgi, or can we access the database with PHP?

I tried the content island. It only shows the subject of the topic. Is there any way to show the text of the topic?

yes, use this script called ubbnews it does not require any modification of the UBB code.

It will enable you to call the last x messages from a forum via ssi

If you want to do more than 5 topics with that particular script, There is a way to increase the limit in the script by editing a couple lines.
