I'm one of those people who can't use the PHP version of UBB, however I can use the zLib based CGI_Buffer method that works in perl and was the precursor to UBB's PHP zLib compression implementation from UBBDev.

Despite this I've always wanted to know why the CGI_Buffer method, done by adding several lines to the top of the ultimatebb.cgi file, compresses every forum page excluding the main one?

Perhaps if I add the special lines to the top of one of the other UBB files it'll work? Is this possible and can anybody shed some 'technical' light on why the front index page for my forum remains uncompressed?

You might have better luck asking about this at ubbdev.com. I think that's where this hack was primarily discussed.

I did ask there (no reply), but the fact is that InfoPop should know because they'd be familiar with the method. It's more a question about how data is constructed and spat out of the forum than the compression itself.

Still Waiting.. come on InfoPop

IP doesn't support any third party modifications here, but it is a bit interesting that it compresses all pages except the forum summary <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
