I've been translating my board and the main problem I've run into (apart from the FAQ) is translating the email messages that are sent out to people upon registration (or when asking for lost password/login to be sent to them).

How can I translate these emails? If I have to dwelve in the code then I'd rather not, preferring to wait until you fix this to incorporate the worldlet feature in an upcoming release.

All outgoing emails are controlled through the variables file "vars_wordlets_email.cgi". You will have to hand edit the file to make languange changes, sorry. And I'm not sure if a wordlet conversion for future UBB releases is planned. Someone from IP will have to answer that.

I am not sure if this is on the plate for UBB or not. It does sound like a good idea though. Maybe one of the other guys could shed some light? Dave? Charles?

In version 5.x the FAQ was a separate html file that could easily be altered and substituted. By upgrading to version 6.x I have unfortunately gone back to an untranslated FAQ... <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

As far as I know Infopop doesn't support hacking the software and the consequences associated with it. I have always stuck to this policy and preferred to offer opinions about new possibilities instead of seeking hacks. The Worldlet feature was supposed to revolutionise the UBB in its international acceptability. It was supposed to make translating it a breeze. But how can it truly be an international product if only part of the translation can be done through the Worldlet feature, while the rest has to be dont by hacking the software?

On a side note, there are some linguistic changes that should also be made. In many languages the "From" word is different when listing someone as being from a particular place (as in the profile), and when a private message for example is "From" someone. That would also need to be addressed as it is seriously making the forum untranslatable.

Re hacking: Template hacking and code hacking are two separate things. Code hacking invalidates support. Template hacking is ok (though if you screw something up we might ask you to revert to a specific stock template!)

Re FAQ: The FAQ is controlled by public_faq.pl That's a template. You can change it. See above. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re emails: They ARE "wordletized". You just can't get at them through the CP. I don't know if that'll be changing any time soon or not. It wasn't originally done for tech reasons - don't know when those will be circumvented.

Just of cusiosity, I can't fine the lone word "message" anywhere in the Worldlet CP. I mean the one that shows up when you try and send a blank message. It says something like you didn't complete the field: message. I can't find it anywhere.

Should this go in the bugs section?

Ahh, that one.

Unfortunately, that isn't easily fixed. It is a known issue however.

(message is the field name. No fieldname->real name translation occurs. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> )
