I wonder if you can help me.

I am but a poor moderator (with no admin rights) on a UBB Classic 6.3.1.1 board and I try and help out in the help section, but this one has stumped me and my Tech Support aren't really helping.

We have a number of registered members who are having problems staying logged in to the boards.

They log in and can observe the boards no problem, but as soon as they try and post a New Topic or reply to an old one, they're logged back out and asked for their info again.

What should I be recommending they check? Are there any obvious answers?

Any help you could give me would be very much appreciated.

My first question is when do they actually get logged out? Is the message board private - i.e. do the users actually know they're logged in? The best way of confirming that is the "Hello, [name]" box in the top left of every page.

I'm thinking that maybe when they login, the cookie doesn't get set properly and though everything looks ok, they never do end up logged in. But they only notice it when they go to post a new topic/reply.

Is that possible?

Just an additional caution. I notice in your profile you're linking to the ultimatebb.php rather than ultimatebb.cgi

Doing that, is known to cause problems with cookies being set, so any links you have coded for the .php should be switched back to .cgi

Firstly, the coding of the site has nothing to do with me unfortunately, I'm just an unpaid skivvy, sorry mod <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> . Sometimes the site appears as a .cgi URL and others as a .php - not sure of the difference myself!

I had a search around, once I'd posted and found another message similar to what you posted there Graeme regarding security settings, so I got the member to check her security settings and cookie settings.

She was set to Medium for Cookies, so I got her to change it "Accept All" (which is how mine is set) and it seems to have worked.
