I finally upgraded to 6.05, and now I have 125MB of CGI files from 5.xx laying around. I deleted the HTML files as instructed in the upgrade_from5.txt file.

I see many duplicate CGI topic files between the 5.xx and 6.05 folders, so this seems like a big waste of space.

When can they be deleted ?

What do you mean 5.xx AND 6.05 folders?

Didn't you do an upgrade in place?

If you cloned your UBB5 completely before upgrading, the v5 folder is no longer needed.

I upgraded 5.45c with the 6.05, following the documentation to the letter. All went well.

In the help it says:

"After your UBB(tm) 6.0 community has been running and you are sure anyone that has bookmarked threads has been redirected you can delete all of the old HTML files. This will save you a lot of space!

Nowhere does it say I can remove the CGI files in the noncgi/Forum* path. I have 100MB of them, and the are being duplicated in the noncgi/cache-abcdefgh/ubb_files/Forums path.

Does 6.xx still use the original path ? Am I not understanding this well ?

The only thing mentioned is "noncgi/forumindex*.cgi"

The files noncgi/Forum*/*.cgi are the permanent thread files, and should not be deleted, except by deleting or pruning posts.

The files in noncgi/cache-*/ubb_files/Forums/ are temporary cache files that get deleted whenever you clear the cache. They're roughly analogous to the HTML files used in version 5.

By the way, that eight-character string after cache- is supposed to be secret. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> If someone knows it, he could potentially look at threads in a forum that he's not supposed to have access to.

Putting that in the help file somewhere might be a good idea.
