I want to limit a search to the forum that a person is on.

If you are at the main ultimatebb.cgi page and click on search, you can see all the forums in the drop down, whether or not they're enabled, etc.

If you're in a forum, it does default to the forum you're in, but at the main page, it defaults to the first forum, even though it might not be currently active, etc.

Am I missing something?

Forums that are not active should not be in the list of forums to search, though that may vary if you're logged in as an admin. Try logging out and visiting the search page again. Also try as a normal user with no extra access rights.

Can you enable searches in archives?

As archives are just normal forums, they should always be searchable.
