An IT guy on my board suggested disabling all HTML due to security threat issue.
He said that allowing HTML could allow a virus to be delivered unless the board provides protection or filters.
What do you think?

While we do have filters in place that eliminate the most common problems (and a few uncommon problems), all filters are imperfect. HTML should be kept disabled unless you would trust each and every one of your users with your life, and have no enemies. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Just to add to Charles' post; there is an addon at UBBDev (VIPHTML) which will allow you to allow only trusted users to use HTML in posts. These trusted users are set via the control panel.

Thanks for that...I thought about for a moment, but I have a pretty big board, over 5000 registrations, and while I trust a lot of people, a lot of nice, seemingly normal people I don't actually know well. I can see some not listed sending angry email along the lines of "Why does he get to do x and not me..." UBB Code has MOST of the functionality of HTML, although I would like some options on font color and size, but that's not a big deal. I think discretion is the better part of valor here...

Hi Mark:
I definitely agree with you... Unfortunately, one bad apple can ruin it - no matter how many nice users you have that wouldn't be harmful with HTML turned on, there's always the one...

If it's just colors/fonts you're looking for, theres an Advanced UBB Code modification to add colors and some other options as ubbcode (not raw html)... This is also available at UBBDev.
