Hey there, first time poster and user here so please be gentle with me.

I've just finished my boards over at http://www.vcollboards.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi and I've just registered all the users. We're going to use this as a project brainstorming area and we only want the CEO and his assistant to have access to one of the category areas.

We have 3 categories at the moment. How do I restrict him to just that one category and the one topic inside it? I dont want them to be able to go into the other categories and read the contant at all.

Is this possible?

Currently there is only restriction of individual forums. You can have the categories all visible and have restricted forums under the category; for an example see the board at UBBDev

To clarify on what Gizmo said - there is no way to hide forums from users that can not reach them in UBB.classic. This is due to our page caching system.

You can, however, hide forums in a number of ways. As of the 6.7 release, you can even hide categories.

That is probably your best choice - hide the category that you do not wish to be visible. You can still access that category and all the forums within it, but they will not be visible to users that don't know the exact URLs to each. (Do note that the URLs are pretty guessable, so moderately advanced and curious users will be able to discover that the forums exist.)

But charles, hiding the categories will still show the forums in the search... Thus private each forum so they can't be searched...

I assumed that the forums were already private, and forum visibility was the only issue here.

Actually, it sounds like he wants his CEO to only be allowed in the one forum. This is most likely an easy modification you can request over at UBBDEV.
