Hi

I'd just like to check the effect custom avatar images will have on page load times.

I've had someone link to a large custom avatar. Assuming they have posted 5 times to a thread, am I right to think that the image only needs to download once and is then cached. Just checking that the file size won't have a cumulative effect on the page load time.

If that's correct, am I right to assume that if the avatar appears on subsequent threads, it won't slow the page load time because it's in the cache already?

It depends if the end user has changed the settings in their browser. By default it will load the images just once. If they opted to check for updates with each visit depending on the browser it may check each image for updates but it should only download it once.
