A post recently appeared on my board from an unregistered user. After reviewing past "unregistered" topics, I confirmed that all forums are set to "Registered Users Only" and there have been no users or posts deleted, banned etc. I am using UBB Classic 6.7.0.

How can this happen, and how can I recover from any possible corruption? Please go easy on me here, I'm not a techie, if you reference a Member directory please tell me what to look for on my host server....I can do an FTP but that's about it.

Never Mind! I now see that "unregistered" message was posted almost 4 years ago, and we've gone through several upgrades since then...I'm not going to worry about it.

I have mine set up the same way I configured my old phpbb board on my site. Once an user is banned or deleted the title changes to "Membership Removed."

Well, I know that its a message he got about 4 years ago. But, I fail to understand how an unregistered user could post if you have your forums set up to block guest from even attempting to post? Its how mine is set up on my new board as well as it was that way on my old board.

If you have your UBB Classic board forum settings (Might I remind you that this UBB classic does not have universal settings to apply to all forums the same permissions) set up to disallow anyone accept for registerd members to log in and post, you should not have any post from unregistered users. Accept those (refering to Gizmo's statement in the above post), that you deleted.

However, if you banned a user by his IP only, his IP can actually change later after being banned if he has a dynamic IP! If you have your config settings to change the users rank title to unregistered after ban or delete, if he was banned, by one IP address and it changed later, that user could still log in post.

Here is how you solve this problem: You need to trace the IP by to its defult gatway host (ie example : proxy.aol.com-portal439.08.26 ) You ban the host and this will permanately ban the user from ever being able to so much as view the board. He will then receive a message "FYI, You've been banned by the Administration of this board, or your host IP has been banned. Use your browser back button to return."

Is one message that I know one board using this software uses. You can with 6.7.2 build customize every single wordlet board message to your liking preferences.

Hehehehe.. Mine says for banned message : "FYI, You've been banned from this board by the Board Directors. You are to leave now. Good bye!"

You may also want to trace down the host IP for their email addresses too so that you can ban the email address IP that way the same banned user cannot rejoin under even a differnt email address from that same mail stmp server IP address. This feature of many on my new UBB will solve lots of problems with banned members from my site from ever returning to register again under even a new user name and email. You can tell your ban set up to ban email, Ip and user names.

It might help if you upgrade to the new 6.7.2 which is really great! Still I hope this info helps you out in the near future.
