I have a brand new and very very huge problem with my board. One of my Directors from our old board registerd on my new one and the board has not sent me an email to activate the acccount with.

I have it set to send administrators email notices. I have the registration mode activated. His account is created. I can even view and edit his profile. In fact, I have changed him to an admin level user already.

What am I doing wrong here with my board settings. I need to activate this account somehow. Surely it shouldnt take more than just a few seconds for me to get the email address from the board.

I already know the board email accounts work as I tested the password/login info send feature out already. It worked in about 2 seconds. This kind of software is so far ahead advanced than the PHPBB board I had I really dont know what I am doing. I have looked for a way in the control panel to activate this new account. But, I am far from ready to open this new board to the public unless I get all issues resolved first.. This issue being the key one. Any takers on helping me out?

Here's an update: I just deleted the new member account as he reported to me an error message. I attempted to log out and register him myself using my own email address. This is the error message I received from my board

-------------------------------------------------

An error has occurred:

The SMTP server returned the following message:

553 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed thru this MTA (#5.7.1)

The SMTP server has rejected the email address the UBB tried to send mail to.
Please ensure that the UBB is allowed to relay mail through the SMTP server,
and that the From: email address (admin@mydomain.com) is a valid email address for this domain.

Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix the problem. Thank you!

Hey Devin-

I also responded to your ticket... but just so others know, this is basically an error saying the SMTP server is not allowing the UBB to send mail out.

Since the rules for relay can vary from host to host, its hard to say what exactly is causing the error, but a good place to start is to make sure that your registration email (the one that all your registration related emails use as the 'from' address) is from your domain. So, for instance, if your domain is xy.com, make sure that your registration email is []whatever@xy.com.[/]

In your case Devin, it seems as though you are using an address from your domain, so thats good.

But the error says:

53 sorry, that domain isn't allowed to be relayed thru this MTA (#5.7.1)

The SMTP server has rejected the email address the UBB tried to send mail to.

It sounds to me as if they aren't allowing third-party programs to relay mail through your domain at all.

You'll need to check with your host for sure.

Hi Kristi, I don't understand what you mean by any of this. But, if you can explain it to me broken down, I can get on the phone with my hosting company directly. Thanks!!

All I would do is give them a ring and tell them that your board sends out mail to users (passwords, etc) and that when it attempts to do this, it gets a 'relay denied' message (you can even tell them that its SMTP error 553). Hopefully, if they have half a brain, they will know what you're talking about and can help!

We do have some articles online that may help your host if, for some odd reason, they don't have a clue <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you need even more details, you can post back to our ticket.

Thanks!

From what I can gather, Kristi is that the board email addresses work just fine on my server. My reason for stating this is the fact that when I ask for the board to send me my lost registration info and password, it sends it just fine. From the same email address in the board software I am using.

If there was a problem on my server relaying emails from that defult board email address I have set up on my server, the password send feature surely would have given me the same error smtp 553. I will be in touch with my hosting company here shortly to have them look into the problem.

However, at this time I am to assume there is something wrong with my UBB software and I will need your help to get it back working properly as its my money that payed for it, or I will fight to get my money back and move on!

I will post updates soon as I get information from my hosting company.

There is nothing wrong with your UBB. It is simply returning the error message provided by the SMTP server.

Update: the smtp error message solved! My hosting company chaged the smtp server address in my board cpanel for me.

New problem though, how do I set my UBB to deny access to newly registered members access to even so much as login and post in the board until their account is approved?

I hope for a quick answer here, or I will close out my previous ticket on this smtp error message and open a new ticket.

I created a test new member account, and the board email address sent a password to the new user account address...duh my own personal email address on msn.com But, allowed me to login and access the board without the board admin which is me approving an account. I simply cannot have the board sending out registration password to new users and they access my new board without me being able to approve or deny their account. What am I doing wrong here?
