I get this error when trying to send a members password info. Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance.


The SMTP server returned the following message:

501 5.7.1 This system is not configured to relay mail from <mk@retailreality.net> to <xxxxx@bevcomm.net> for 216.58.174.162

The SMTP server has rejected the email address the UBB tried to send mail to.
Please ensure that the UBB is allowed to relay mail through the SMTP server,
and that the From: email address (mk@retailreality.net) is a valid email address for this domain.

Bottom line, you'll probably need to speak to your host about opening up relay so that the UBB can send mails.

Update:

I contacted the company I have my web site through and they said I should put "localhost" in the email setting where I have "mail.retailreality.com". In the "SMTP Server (Windows)" spot. I did make the change and it worked.

My question is will the emails now go through the server of my ISP or will they go through the server my web site and forum are on?

localhost will send it through the server itself. localhost is a special name which refers a computer back to itself.

That's right - localhost is literally the "local host" - the server hosting the board...

BTW, that little tip about 'localhost' saved me a bundle of time trying to figure out why my Board wouldn't send e mail at ixwebhosting.com.

Great host, but their tech support was no help, as they launched off into a lengthy lecture on how to set up Outlook...
