I backup my ubb weekly, now daily because I feel that what my users posts are so crucial that the world would colapse without their text.
During a recent backup (I tar the ubb folder) I got an error message: ..../Members/00001417.cgi unknown file type file ignored. Thats a standard server response for a bad file.
I browsed the Members directory and saw that the Member file 00001417.cgi was missing. All other member files appear to be in sequential order with that one missing. That dude is lost. Rebuild members or leave alone???
Also - My board has several hundred thousand posts (many archived) since 2002. An uncompressed UBB folder is 750MEG in size. Sound reasonable? Thats with cache cleared. A compressed tar squashed down to 75M in size.
When I figure out how to get my mysql working Im going to switch. Until then 6.7.0 has to do.

if the file is gone, the file is gone. rebuild the member stats and wait for someone to complain about not being able to log in <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you make weekly backups try restoring the file /Members/00001417.cgi (chmod 777) then rebuild member stats and try to browse to the user in question. If it shows then try to login and see if it'll allow you to do some genaric things, else you'll have to just forget it and leave the user deleted.

244,752 posts, 750 megs... no, that doesn't add up, unless the posts are very, very large indeed. You should be using about half of that with the cache cleared.
Check each ForumX directory for an HTML directory. If it's there, delete it.
Check the NonCGI directory for .cgi files having forum numbers and mentioning "index" - these are old search indexes that can be deleted.

I think I'll just leave the user as lost. <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Holy crap I had a gazillion HTML directory files from years ago. Its taking many minutes just to delete each folder. But thanks. Save me a massive amount of space + backup time

For curiosity, how much space did you finally get down to from your 750MB?

According to the servers telnet info, 180M for the ubb folder now. And yesturday is was at 750M for sure. I remember my backup file, uncompressed, had to be put onto a DVD because a CDR wouldnt hold it.
So does 180M sound reasonable?
My largest forum went from some insane number down to 8M.
My members directorey is 20M. Kinda big but thats 5000+ members and I allow a retarded amount of signature text, ubbcode, PM's, ratings, all that silly stuff. I thought about pruning members but every month someone contacts me wanting their old name again.
This is years and years of upgrades where i just kept copying over data folders. I think I had ubb 5 or earlier many years ago

~200 megs is about the expected figure, yes.
The reason your Members directory is so large is due to the way files are stored on most filesystems. Even though a member file may be as small as 100 characters total, those 100 characters get to live in a slot that is anywhere from 4k to 16k in size. The size used by the file on disk is what is counted, even though the file itself uses much less space.

you could prune members how I do... list users who have been idle for 2 years and purge; repeat the next year <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ... then they can whine all they want, they hadn't posted in 2 years <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> ... I tend to start with accounts which have been idle 2+ years and have never posted, it's amazing how much you can prune out...
