Hi. I'm a first-time user of UBB and I'm having difficulty figuring out the nuances of the forum moderation.

I believe I disabled our posters' abilities to use smilies in their posts back when we put the site live a month ago. But now, instead of smilies, when people insert the smiley code, we get a word description of the smiley instead (like <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> for a smiley face).

I hate smilies for the most part, but our posters seem to like them, so I thought I'd reinstate them. However, when I enabled icons in the CP, the smilies still didn't show up.

I'd either like to reinstate the smilies so they show up or find a way to not allow them at all, and not allow people to even insert them into their posts.

Can anyone help me on this? I did a search on all possible smiley topics in this forum and most of the topics seemed to do more with adding additional smilies or having smilies disappear after reinstall.

Any help you can offer would be fab. Thanks!

Looking at your forums, it appears that you removed the image files for the graemlins. You need to restore those files back and they will resume working again.

Hmmm. Thanks, Ron. I actually have no access to those files (or any others for that matter). I'm working on this with our parent company, who seems to think it's easier for them to not make any forum changes EVER than it would be for me to, you know, have access to the forum files so that I can, oh, I don't know, properly moderate them.

Soooo. If I want the smilies to show up, I have to restore the graemlin files? And the only way to do that is to get access to the cgi-bin, yes? Or can I simply upload them through the control panel?

If it's the latter, awesome. If not, dammit.

Thanks.

The files actually live in the NonCGI directory - http://forums.skirtmag.com/bb/

There are no file upload faccilities within UBB.classic, so you'll need to put the files there some other way.
