I have a forum called events and announcements. This has been in place for a few years and I do want to keep all the messages I have posted there.

However, if possible, I would like to divide this forum into a public area that contains all the messages to date, and a new section of this forum that will be for "members only" announcements.

How can I do this?

You'd be best off creating a new private forum just for the new content.

That wouldn't be easy, given the circumstances. The Events forum now is an open forum. I wanted to add a closed section to it, just for members. If I add a new forum, I would have to go through all tthe members permissions and add a new forum for each of them, right? That's several hundred people.

You'd have to do the same if you restricted permissions on the current forum. Also, due to the way that private forums work, all of the content in the existing forum would be hidden when you made the switch.

Unfortunately there is no "members only" permission or mode in UBB.classic, and that makes things a bit on the difficult side sometimes.
