My members are driving me crazy with the complaints on the folders not flaming and turning red to show threads with new messages. Some also complain about the new messages not showing up after they post them.

How do I fix this?

Thanks.

The flaming folders only appear on threads that have a certain number of posts which is configurable in the control panel.

For further help, we're going to need a url to your board and the version number since there have been some changes to how cookies are handled amongst the various UBB versions.

Yes, I know that. My problem is that they do not work as they are supposed to.

Here is the location of my web site:

If you use the link with ByPassCookie=true, the cookies will not be set on each visit and the folders will not work. Use only the link as far as Ultimate.cgi?action=intro

The same is true if you go directly to a forum page and skip the intro page.

Version 6.0 is supposed to change this behavior.

Added: I see flaming folders on your site and red folders and lighted bulbs.

The link on your home page uses the ByPassCookie argument. Change that as below and ask your users to reset or change any bookmarks they have using that argument.

Added: The delay in appearance of messages is a browser or cache issue. Ask the users having the problem to set their browsers to refresh on every visit rather than once per day or once per session. If the problem persists for some users, ask them to see if their ISP caches pages.

I just made that change.

The forums have red folders, even though I've read the messages already, and even after I go into the messages again the folders still stay red.

Does this mean the the host is using Cache instead of 'live?'

The red folder indicates new posts since your last visit. It does not go out after you read the post. When you return for another session, the folders will then change.

I would also like to say to upgrade to 5.47d if at all possible. That version fixes many cookie problems.

More comment. Ted indicated that version 6.0 will have a different routine that will allow entry direct to forums and the colored folders will behave. He did not say anything about it keeping track of read posts, so we will have to wait for the announcement of what features have changed in version 6.0.

How soon will 6.0 be available?

That is a closely held secret of Infopop. Watch the UBB News forum on this board. There may be an announcment in the not too distant future. Then again, maybe not <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> .
