I want to start using the freeware version of UBB and purchase a license within the next month but want to know how hard it will be to switch.

Its not hard at all. You will be able to keep your existing threads, settings, and members during the upgrade too <img src="https://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
