Would be good to be able to ban people from individual forums.

I'm not sure I follow, are you sugguesting a ban button on each post? Or just banning someone's access to a forum?

Say for example you wish to restrict a user from posting in a certain forum(s) - then you would simply ban them from that forum, whilst allowing them to post on the rest of the site, where their permissions allowed.

Sorry hit the submut button some how from the keyboard. At the moment the only way to do this is to create a new usergroup, which has no posting rights to a certain forum, and move the member into it. Sadly this does not work too well, and gives the member other posting issues. Sites need powerful banning options, whether these are time based (sin bin) or banning from parts of sites (maybe the good bits) for a certain time. Outright banning doesn't always work for regular posters who overstep the mark at times and upset others, after a pint or three.

Umm, forgive me if i missunderstand usergroups, but if a usergroup doesn't have access to a forum, but another group they are in do, they will still have access to the usergroup...
so so long as this user is in the "users" usergroup, and that usergroup has access to that forum, they will be able to access that forum...

exactly - but what if you wish to ban 'fred' from forum a and 'jim' from forum a & c?
That is not possible without having a usergroup for people banned from a only and another usergroup for those banned from A & C and so on....

But so long as either of them are in the "users" group and the "users" group has access to the forum in question, it doesn't matter if "joe" is in the "banned from forum a" group which doens' thave permission to access "forum a" as they're in the "users" group which DOES have access to "forum a"...

I havnt played with user groups yet, but i would have tought you could create a banned group?
WOuldnt you just change there user group to banned and sort the privliges in each forum from there?
I think it would be funny to make a single forum called "Naught Members" and only allow the banned members too see it and read a deafult warning lol.
Then they could post what ever they wanted in there, but ONLY banned members could access it.
You have to be banned to get there lol....
Level 1 banned = Read all forums + Banned Forum. Level 2 banned = Naught Members forum only.
has anyone tried this yet? Any problems, as i say i havent done any testing with this a the mo...

Yes - but putting them into the banned group, means they only see the forums that that group is allowed to see. The problem comes when person A must not see forum 5 and person B can't post to forum 7 - these two can't be in the same banned group as they need different pemissions. Whereas if there was a method for a ban list for each forum (maybe username and IP) then moderators for those forums could decide who to ban and for how long. The main use for this system would be forums that hosted club or community forums, where the moderators wanted to have some say on who can and can't post in their little section. This would save these clubs or groups going to one of the many free forum hosters and stay and have a ubbt forum

I thought of a possible flaw in the above,
If you decide to make a Banned forum for a member. They could still post in the shout box! As they would still be logged in?
And there rantings and raving could be seen by all.
