I am trying to figure out how I have done this in the apst on other boards but I cannot find what I did to make a username/password required before you can see ANYTHING on the UBB Threads site.
Any ideas? What am I missing? I made sure no one was a member of the Guest group (not that it had access anyways) and still a guest can see pretty much all forums descriptions and names (a big no no for us).

Probably the easiest way is to set "Can see forum" to 0 for guests in Permissions > Forum Permissions.

Been through this once before I believe with Don. Yes setting guests access to zero will stop access to forum topics but will not completely close the board to guests. They will still see the forum summary, portal page, etc.
This was a feature in classic but not today in threads.
Only way I see right now is to password protect the install directory. But that would be a headache.

I am able to di ti in threads and have it done now, I just cannot recall how I did it before? Here is one site where it is done. http://ysthreads.ditd.org/ubbthreads.php/forum_summary.htmlOnce you login you see everything as it should be. I am really trying to recall how I did this. I think it was by removing everyone from a group or to a group or something like that. DANG IT!

Could be a mod but first steps are do not enable the portal page. This may work if you don't enable the portal page. Control Panel ยป Portal Settings turn off Enable the Main Portal Index page?
goto control panel> group management. Select site for guests. Turn everything off meaning set to 0. Then again goto control panel>group management select forums permissions. Again set all permissions in all forums to 0.

1. I don't have the Main Portal Page Enabled. 2. Everything is set to 0 for Guests already in Site Perms 3. Everything is set to 0 for Forum Perms as well.
I wonder if this is due to the fact that is was an import from Classic? I recall it having something to do with Groups, but I coudl be off here. This was a while ago.
Hmmmmm....sonofa.

If it was a mod, what file do you think I would have mod'ed and if I just copy that one over from one that is working correctly to the site in question, woudl that take care of the problem?
I have been going through old posts of mine and don't see it in there either so I am really stumped.

well, it would be groups permissions are set by groups. I don't think it has to do with importing from classic. What is the url to your site?

From my notes, it looks like it was answered back in 4/2008 but I can't find any posts on here that go back that far.....sonofa.
Maybe it was a mod? I think Rick was the oine that helped me but it is all pretty hazy. Maybe I shoudl copy/replace some files from the other threads install to the new one and see what happens?
I recall hiding the islands from guests was tricky as well.

I have gone through everything. Maybe this is a bug with the new installer, but Guests have read access to all islands and to all forums, even though they are set to '0' everywhere!

You even set it to 0 in each individual forums permission?

That is correct. I feel like I am missing something super obvious, but just can't put my finger on it.
The islands shoudln't be showing up either - that may have been a mod, but I don't think so.

I am trying to recall that is had something to do with group permissions, like I had to remove or add everyone to the users group or something like that.
The islands issue I think was fixed differently.

Okay I see you closed the board but anyway just before you closed the board for starters. Guest permissions for "can see Forum is not set to 0 for all forums. Because I can see them.

OK, I think I figured out the issue.
If I enable a Teaser forum, it also shows all portal islands.
So, now how do I hide teaser forums (since we have levels of permissions to registered members) and if that isn't possible, how do I hide portal islands to only registered members?

They are all set to '0', but since they are teaser forums, you see them. This in most cases I am sure is what people want, but our privacy policy precludes us form showing ANY of the information involving names which does appear in islands and in forums descriptions.
I don't suppose there is anyway to hide any of this is there?

Is Teaser Forum? Forum will be visible in the forum listing even if the user does not have permission to read the forum.

Alternatively, if I disable teaser forums, how can I make certain froups only ab le to read the forum name and description without being able to go into the forum to read anything else. This was the problem we had before and why we had to enable them as teaser forums.
Or......does using the -1 setting override everything instead of using a 0?

I think we did try that but the problem was that you coudl read every topic decription but not the items in the topic. As soon as the rebuild is done I will give that a shot, should be done in a few minutes.

Yeah.....if we make see forum=1 and read topics=0, then you can still see all of the recent user post info as well as the entire list of topics in that forum. Is there anyway to make it so that you can REALLY onyl read the forums and none of the topics in it?

that would be a mod.. i did this for a customer of min ( http://ctfisherman.com ).. i called it -- Teaser Topics which is basically the same idea as a Teaser Forum, but extended down to the topic level. the practical use was for a fishing forum where members of the 'elite' group would post fishing reports that they didn't want regular members to see.. fishing spots are kinda sacred in a way...

Well I kinda forgot about this but Rick placed a value in several scripts probably for this purpose.Just never carried it further. There are quite a few scripts that have it so you will need to play with it some. To determine what you want displayed or not. But anyway most all are in the scripts directory. except for ubbthreads.php just change each desired file to be: Changing the value to a 1 will disable the feature from displaying for guests.
