I'm asking how the views in a forum works?
As i have a forums with sponsors Topics,
there all locked topics.

And as a test i clicked on 1 several times to see if
the views count would increase?

It didnt?

I tried a few others and they didnt either.
So i closed my browser window and went and revisited.

They only increased once?

I'm not understanding how and when they update?
If they require a post in that forum to trigger
a update of total's then i'm goosed as its all the
topics in there are locked no one can post?

Update
Since ive been writing this.
The one in question has now updated but only by 3
i visited it 6 times?

How does it work?
Cheers

Mark.

There is a bit of caching going on with the view counter. With version 6 we used to update it everytime a post was viewed which caused the table to be locked every time it was updated. They were quick locks, but on a busy forum they would add up. With version 7 the views are tracked in a seperate table. When a new post is made on the forum it triggers a script that updates the view counters.

Rick,

That might be okay for some posts but I would like to have a method (SQL or PHP or ?? ) where I can manually trigger the view update.

We often review posts (view - activity) to determine if we need to update code or explanation in the post. The post may not ever get another post for a long time in some forums but doesn't mean their not being viewed.

Or does the trigger update ALL forums when a post is made in ANY forum?

Okay well I think my question was just answered. Someone posted in another forum and now that post in question has been updated for the amount of views. I can live with that.

Thanks.
