I found out if a Display Name contains an "&" the Private Message screen gets an error.

I believe this is realted to my "special characters in pm's" error; the fix was to change the characterset to UTF-8

generic.php -> "CHARSET"
also, for anyone looking for language strings, the language editor has a "search" option which searches all of the language files for any language string you're wishing to edit.

Made the change.
It didn't do anything.
I took the "&" out of the display name, made it a space and the PM function works just nice for him.

After you make the characterset change you have to update the problimatic members profile to ensure the display name is in UTF-8

I think this will fix the problem LarE. If you edit scripts/checkrecipients.inc.php. At line 108, you'll see this:
$returnval = "<user>$User</user>";
Right before that, add this:
$User = htmlentities($User);

Rick: That did it.
Had to hunt for the .php file.
I did a search for checkrecipients.inc.php, got nothing.
Found out you add added an "s" to it -
checkrecipient.inc.php

This was related to my changing the mysql library to fix the integer/numeric problem on some servers. Should be working now.
