This listing is for an extremely rare 1989 nCube2 silicon wafer in excellent condition. This wafer is 4" in diameter and has a number of complete computer CPU chips on it.
It comes along with an original press photos, dated June 19th 1989. The photo is glossy and is 10" x 8". It has the newspaper press room annotations and also a note on the back side. The newspaper is 'The Oregonian'.
The chips are nCube2 microprocessors. These 14mm square chips are huge compared other chips of its time. Easily viewable under even a modest USB microscope. Why this piece is special
Birth of Massively-Parallel Computing– the nCUBE-2 powered the first commercial 13-dimensional hyper-cube supercomputers, beating Cray’s scalar giants at certain tasks in the late-80 s.
Custom Silicon, Handful Survive– only nCUBE’s own fabs produced this 1 µm, bi-metal CMOS part (~500 000 transistors). Almost all working chips were permanently mounted in multi-node boards; Whole CPU Wafers like this are virtually unseen outside museums.
Here is a chance to own a piece of supercomputing history, an extremely rare historic museum quality collectible The wafer would make a great display, and/or gift!nCUBE was a series of parallel computing computers from the company of the same name. Early generations of the hardware used a custom microprocessor. With its final generations of servers, nCUBE no longer designed custom microprocessors for machines, but used server-class chips manufactured by a third party in massively parallel hardware deployments, primarily for the purposes of on-demand video._gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 _gsrx_vers_1730 (GS 9.9.4 (1730))
