I can't really speak for the vendor. But what I can say is the version 8 project was stalled due to changes in ownership and the death of one of the primary programmers without any backups.
This caused some back stepping in future releases.
SD has stepped in and recommended to progress in smaller steps.
Meaning version 7.5.7 and possibly a version 7.6.X before we reach version 8.
So I assume that the vendor has removed the version 8 progress from public view due to it is a mute point at this time.
As far as the link you referenced I can only think it was a oversight. And should be corrected.
