my change in page color doesn't seem to be showing up. i've changed it to #7EA8E2, but it's still white as snow.

Check permissions on your styles.file.

oops, well i've found out that within the forums the color has changed, but the main forum page has not (which is what threw me off). shouldn't it also change with the other pages?

and what permissions are you speaking of? would they affect this?

Uh, ok, which control panel area are you using to set style settings?

I meant file permissions on Styles.file.

hi there, charles. i'm using the style settings area. and in fact, the color that i'm using shows up on the pages for each forum. but it's not showing on the main forums page.

any suggestions? i've located the styles.file and the permissions seem to be fine.

There are two areas in UBB where you change colors. The first is Style Settings which affects only the first page (forum summary page). The actual forum style settings are modified/changed under Forum Settings. After changing the colors in Forum Settings you will need to run Update Threads for the changes to be reflected in existing threads.

Now, it sounds like you're saying you changed the Style Settings and the forum summary page doesn't reflect this. When viewing your forum summary page did you reload/refresh the page (the browser might have the old page cached). Also, when you go back into Style Settings are your previous entries reflected there?

Oooh, as a follow-up I checked your board and control panel, you do seem to have a problem. If you're using WS_FTP could you run a DirInfo on the cgi-bin and post the results here?

yes, i have reloaded and i've also cleared my cache. the page changes are indicated on the style settings page, and they're showing on all pages except the forum summary page. take a look.

and thanks for your prompt reply.

k...since you've already looked. no i'm not using ftp, unfortunately. my server does not allow telnet access, but my tech is working closely with me on these permissions. would you like me to post my styles file, to see if it's ok?

yes, i really do seem to be having probs with the style settings page. i've inserted a bbtitle graphic, and it doesn't show. i also noticed that though the forum description text size is set as 1, it's showing as 2. looks like some parts of that style settings page isn't being translated correctly.

I'm hoping Charles might know what is going on.

Charles where are you?

I spent yesterday in Monterey, and was unable to get online to check SK. Don't feel abandoned.

I'm very hesitant to continue troubleshooting here - the fact that you've stated that you can't FTP *OR* telnet into your server disturbs me greatly. This is going to take a lot of work - and that's just what the support ticket system exists for. The geniuses up in Seattle'll figure it out for you.

this is very weird. i just added a hack to the ultimate.cgi file to welcome new members, and suddenly the forum summary page now works.

so i'm not blindsided by any more shockers like this, can anyone figure out why that would happen?

Don't question what makes things work... Even if it did involve adding a hack.
